The new design-build pre-engineered warehouse expansion at Atlantic Packaging in Summerville, South Carolina, is now officially completed!
Atlantic Packaging
Atlantic Packaging is a privately owned company that began over 75 years ago as a small-town newspaper in Tabor City, North Carolina. Over time, they have become a leader in industrial packaging and custom converted products, with a focus on end-of-line packaging systems. The company now operates in 35 locations across the United States and the Caribbean.
Project Award
Thanks to a strong referral from B&E Electrical and K-Con’s experience with design-build, Atlantic Packaging chose K-Con as the general contractor for their upcoming project. The project included a 51,760-square-foot design-build pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) expansion to an existing warehouse.
Design-Build Process
Design-Build encourages a true team approach to final design and construction by actively involving input from the end user, builders, and designers from the beginning and throughout all project phases. The process fosters close communication and a partnership among the owner, builder, and designer, helping to prevent conflicts. Clear, upfront design definition with input from all team members almost entirely eliminates costly change orders and modifications during construction.
K-Con handles every aspect of a project from start to finish, with one point of responsibility. Multiple activities and construction of initial phases can start while final designs and finish decisions are still being made, without causing delays. Our 30 years of experience have shown us that design-build requires clear and timely communication with everyone involved. We believe that a collaborative design process best aligns with our client’s goals and users’ needs.
Project Highlights
Our team started the project from the ground up, including slab-on-grade construction and a pre-engineered metal building. The fully insulated warehouse expansion features a two-story, panelized in-plant office with restrooms and a sprinkler system. Additionally, the project includes a two-bay truck loading dock, a door with a forklift ramp, overhead doors with canopies, and overhead dock doors. The work also covers electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems. Outside, the team finished sidewalks, landscaping, asphalt paving, and storm drainage. Throughout the process, our team and subcontractors built the project without disrupting the client’s ongoing manufacturing and distribution operations.
Conclusion
We are grateful to Atlantic Packaging for choosing K-Con as their general contractor. We completed the design-build pre-engineered warehouse expansion project through incredible collaboration with Atlantic Packaging, project partners, and the project team. K-Con would like to thank everyone involved in making this job a success.
